Assessment of routine screening of liver and bone RI imaging and brain CT in bronchogenic carcinoma
Description
This study was undertaken to determine the usefulness of routine screening for occult metastatic disease by liver RI imaging, bone RI imaging, and brain CT in 247 patients with bronchogenic carcinoma. The true positive rate was 4.0%, 15.0%, and 2.8%, respectively. These examinations were considered very useful due to their ability to detect occult metastases in many cases without other abnormal physical and serum biochemical findings. When the primary tumor was small (T1 and less), however, these examinations were found to be of little use. (author)
