Workshop proceedings: safety and environmental aspects of deuterium--tritium fusion power plants, Seattle, Washington, September 14--15, 1977
Description
In September of 1977 a workshop was held on the safety and environmental aspects of fusion power plants to consider potential safety and environmental problems of fusion power plants and to reveal solutions or methods of solving those problems. The objective was to promote incorporation of safety and environmental protection into reactor design, thereby reducing the expense and delay of backfitting safety systems after reactor designs are complete. A dialogue was established between fusion reactor designers and safety and environmental researchers. Four topics, each with several subdivisions, were selected for discussion: radiation exposure, accidents, environmental effects and plant safety. For each topic, discussion focused on the significance of the problem, the adequacy of current technology to solve the problem, design solutions available and research needed to solve the problem
