Radiotracer Studies on the Fungicide 14C-Zincb in Tomato Plant and its Products

Description
The level of 14C-residues in extracted and non extracted different part of tomato plant 15 days following treatment with 14C-zineb was determined. The over all data show that about 7% of the radioactivity applied could be recovered in plant tissues. Chromatographic analysis of 14C-zineb residues in different parts of tomato plant relieved the presence of the parent compound together with five metabolites, which were identified as ethylene thiourea (ETU), ethylene thiuram mono sulphide (ETM), ethylene thiuram disulphide (ETD) and two unknowns. The effect of some processing methods on the level of 14C-zineb residue was studied. Obvious reduction in the level of insecticide was detected in juice, puree and paste (58%, 77% and 81%, respectively)
