Statistical investigation of flare stars. II. Origin of stars of UV Ceti type

Description

New estimates are obtained for the number of flares expected from stars of UV Ceti type when photographic observations of flares are made. It is shown that these estimates, which are based on the assumption of a uniform distribution of stars of UV Ceti type in the Galaxy, do not contradict the results of the photographic observations made at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory. It is concluded that stars of UV Ceti type form a population in the general galactic star field and arose in systems that have already disintegrated
