Production of electricity: nuclear power hangs on

Description

Up to 2040 at least, the world will use more and more electricity. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) the production of more electricity while complying to the objectives of sustainable development, will imply a strong growth of renewable energies but also an increase of nuclear electricity at the world scale. The total production of electricity will go from 24240 TWh in 2015 to 35981 TWh in 2040 and the share of nuclear power will go from 11 to 15% for the same period. The article also details the electricity production in 8 regions of the world: North America, South and Central America, Europe, Africa, Middle-East, Eurasia, and Asia. In Europe for instance the production of electricity will increase by 10.6% while the nuclear share will be maintained at 24% and the renewable energy share will jump from 32% to 65%. In Asia, where the impact of China and India is very important, the production of electricity will increase by 71%, the nuclear share will go from 4% to 15% and the renewable energy share from 20% to 61%.
