A quantum-electronic approach to classical oscillators with periodic structures. Pt. 1
Description
A simple theory of the free electron laser is presented as an example of a more general approach to classical oscillators with periodic structures. In this theory, the interaction between the electrons, the wiggler field, and the radiation field is treated as transitions between discrete energy levels as in conventional lasers, rather than the usual scattering or wave coupling. Similarities between the free electron laser and the gyrotron are pointed out. (orig.)
