Medical features of the radiological accident in Chernobyl
Description
The main medical features concerning the recent nuclear accident occurred in Chernobyl power station is summarized. The first measures taken by the Soviet medical authorities to minimize the effects of ionizing radiation on the victims are briefly commented on. The specialized laboratory analyses and therapeutic procedures adopted by the physicians during the course of the acute phase of the major syndromes are also discussed. (author)

Descrevem-se sumariamente os principais aspectos medicos relativos ao recente acidente nuclear ocorrido em Chernobyl. Comentam-se brevemente as medidas iniciais tomadas pelas autoridades medicas da Uniao Sovietica, visando minimizar os efeitos das radiacoes ionizantes sobre o organismo humano, bem como os exames laboratoriais especiais realizados.
