Measurement of neutron field reference data using a standardized single sphere albedo technique

  • 1. Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center, Germany

Description

In stray neutron fields the single sphere albedo technique was found to be a suitable method to establish dose equivalent reference values and appropriate field calibration factors for albedo dosemeters. With respect to a more complete interpretation of the actual neutron field the on-lie computer evaluation techniques was extended and improved in order to become a standardized technique in area monitoring. On the basis of fluence response functions now well established for the 30 cm sphere and the albedo detector, the new evaluation technique allows one to estimate actual field data in terms of neutron fluence absorbed dose, dose equivalent, fluence-to-dose conversion factors and effective quality factor
