Description
U-233 can be produced very effectively in the Th-232 blanket region of an accelerator-driven fast subcritical assembly together with the transmutation of minor actinides and long-lived fission products. The U-233 fuel produced can be used in a light water reactor combined with U-238 fertile material to supply Pu to this fast assembly. This accelerator-driven cross-progeny fuel cycle is very economical, and can be implemented in rather a short time. Using the accelerator offers opportunities for separating nuclear power plants from ones processing fuel production and transmutation, which can be controlled by international organizations. (author)
