The HERA spin rotator

Description
The HERA proposal of 1981 showed before and after each collision point a so-called spin rotator. The first rotator turns the vertical spin of the electrons coming out of the arc into the longitudinal direction, and the second rotator turns it back into the vertical again before the beam enters the next arc. Meanwhile, as a novel storage ring component, this spin rotator has undergone a long theoretical and technical development and is now being mechanically tested. (orig./HSI)

Im HERA-Proposal von 1981 war vor und hinter jeder Experimentierzone ein sogenannter Spinrotator vorgesehen. Der erste Rotator dreht den senkrechten Spin der aus dem Bogen kommenden Elektronen in die Strahlrichtung, und nach dem Durchlaufen des Detektors, bevor der Strahl in den naechsten Bogen eintritt, dreht der zweite Rotator den Spin wieder in die Senkrechte. Inzwischen hat dieser Rotator als neuartiges Speicherringelement eine lange Entwicklung durchlaufen und wird jetzt mechanisch getestet. (orig./HSI)Additional details
