A ratio-to-digital converter for charge division position sensing

  • 1. Dept. of Energy Conversion Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu Univ., Kasuga 816

Description

Characteristics of a ratio-to-digital converter (RDC) have been studied. The RDC, which includes a linear-sweep type analog division circuit and a time-to-digital converter (TDC), gives a ratio of pulse heights of two input signals (numerator and denominator signals) in digital form. A previous design of the RDC[1] is improved in the counting rate design of the RDC[1] is improved in the counting rate capability, the adoptability to 16-bit micro-computers and the overall reliability. Errors in the pulse division calculation are also discussed
