Description

The first results of a joint study carried out at a number of oncological institutions of the RSFSR are discussed. It was concerned with evaluation of the role of Holstead's radical operation, postoperative radiation and chemotherapy in patients with stage 2b (TI, 2NIMO) breast cancer. 822 history cases were analysed. Recurrences and metastases were detected in 12.6 % of surgical patients (regional-3.2%, distant metastases-in 9.4%). A slightly lower frequency of recurrences and metastases (11.4%) was recorded in group 2 (Holsteads's operation and postoperative radiation treatment). The lowest frequency was in group 3: recurrences were 2.1 times less frequent than in study group 1 and 1.9 times less frequent than in group 2 As for metastasis incidence, the figures were 2.2 and 2.1 respectively. The data obtained serVe as a basement for further development of joint studies on the use of combined therapy of stage 2b breast rancer including chemotherapy
