Description

The reprocessing of spent fuel from power reactors produces metallic solid wastes contaminated by alpha emitting nuclides. This waste is composed of zircaloy hulls and other metallic residues such as grid spacers and end pieces used in the fuel assemblies (the hardware). This paper reports on research and development on volume reduction and stabilization treatment technology for zircaloy hulls and hardware. Decontamination and gross solidification technologies are evaluated
