Description

This paper summarizes discrete fracture network (DFN) analysis of the Tracer Retention Understanding Experiments 'TRUE-1' carried out at the Aespoe Hard Rock Laboratory in Sweden from 1995 through 2000. These studies confirmed the ability of the DFN approach, together with conventional advection-dispersion-diffusion assumptions to calibrate and predict solute transport in a single fracture at the 5 to 10 meter scale. The analysis also indicated the possibility that alternative formulations of reactive transport constitutive laws may also be useful. In addition to addressing issues of ADD transport, the 'TRUE-1' experiment raised and addressed important issues regarding solute transport pathways and the effect of fracture network connectivity on flow and transport in fractured rock
