Description
Objective: To study the clinical significance of the changes of serum TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-10 levels in patients with acute conjunctivitis after treatment. Methods: Serum TNF-α level (with RIA), IL-6 and IL-10 levels (with ELISA) were measured in 42 patients both before and after treatment as well as in 30 controls. Results: The serum TNF-α, IL -6 and IL - 10 levels in the patients before treatment were significantly higher than those in the controls (P<0.01). After 2 weeks of treatment, there were no statistically singificant differences between the levels in patients and controls (P>0.05). Conclusion: The measurement of the changes of serum TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-10 levels after treatment might be important for predicting the prognosis of patients with acute conjunctivitis. (authors)
