Installation for study of spectral characteristics of gas mixture luminescence under the influence of alpha particles
- 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst. (USSR)
Description
An installation for studying the luminescence of high-pressure (0.1-5.0 kgf/cm2) gases and gas mixtures under the effect of α-particles of 239Pu (Esub(α)=5.14 MeV) is described. The installation contains a high-power spectrometer DFS-12; a scintillation chamber with sources of α-particles (100 mCi); a vacuum assembly for pumping the chamber out to approximately 10-5 torr; a manovacuummeter; a spectrum-scanning block, and an electronics block. The use of wide slits in the spectrometer increases the scanning rate to 0.2 nm/sec at a spectrometer resolution of 1.5-3.0 nm. The broadening of the spectral range of the installation (300-830 nm) has been achieved by changing the initial angle of setting of diffraction gratings in the spectrometer. The operation of the installation is illustrated by the luminescence spectrum of an Ar+5%N2 mixture
