Description
With recent advances in supported liquid membrane (SLM) technology: SLM's are begining to be considered as a viable option for recovering valuable metals from effluent streams or from low concentration process streams. Recent research in the Chemical Engineering Departments of the Atomic Energy Corporation of South Africa and the Potchefstroom University for CHE has proved the potential of this technology. In order to adapt this research to plant scale operation, the kinetics of the process must be modeled. An empirical model for the co-extraction of uranium and nitric acid is presented, and its predictions are compared with results obtained in a pilot scale unit
