Pinch-effect in metals

Description

Pinch-effect in compensated metals induced by the magnetodynamic mechansim of nonlinearity has been theoretically studied. A fundamental peculiarity of pinch-effect in metals lies in the fact that it is not accompanied by the spatial redistribution of current carriers but results from considerable nonuniformity of their mobility. A current cord is formed by the group of trapped electrons coiling around the plane of change of the natural magnetic current field sign. relative conductivity on the periphery depends on the Larmor electrons and holes which perform almost circular motion. It is established that gradient components resulted from nonuniformity on the magnetic current field participate in conductivity of these electrons. It is shown that such a mechanism of conductivity may induce the occurrence of a falling region on current-versus-voltage characteristics
