Characteristics and topology of the layer of energetic electrons in the magnetosheath according to Prognoz-3, 4 data

Description

Some physical characteristics of the layer of electrons with energy 0,04-3 MeV in the transition region between the magnetopause and the bowshock according to the data of 'Prognoz 3, 4' have been given. Topology of the particle layer, its thickness and amplitude were shown to be dependent upon the background electron intensity in the interplanetary space. One of the possible mechanisms of the energetic electron origin in the transition region was assumed to be the electron acceleration in the layer of the shift movement of the solar wind plasma near the magnetosheath. 21 refs., 5 figs
