On the possibilities of initiating an avalanche reaction of the thermonuclear fusion in explosion-driven spherical systems. Part 2. Two-liner systems

Description

The critical velocity values of liners are assessed, these values being necessary to initiate the avalanche reaction of thermonuclear fusion in multi-layer spherical systems for generating and compressing of hot plasma by means of explosives. A system is analyzed, in which a spherical liner driven (by explosion products) to a suitable speed, strikes the core composed of a layer of D-T ice and of a gaseous D-T centre, separated by an internal, metal (Cu) liner. The variation of the critical-velocity values of the external motion of the liner in function of the initial radius of the core (Ro) for several initial values of the density of the gaseous centre (ρω) has been studied. It has been found that in the two-liner systems these values are lower than those in one-liner systems, the systems compared being of the same size and of the same quantity of the thermonuclear fuel. With non-profiled motion of the external liner the diminution of the critical velocity in relation to a one liner system is the greater, the greater is the initial radius (R1) of the core of the system.
