Heat transfer from a flat plate pasted on one end of a duct with an orifice in pressurized He II

Description
Steady state and transient heat transfer from a flat plate located at one end of a Gorter-Mellink duct with an orifice was measured for bulk liquid temperatures of 1.8 to 2.1 K at atmospheric pressure in order to clarify the heat flow expansion and contraction. One side of the test plate was attached to the end plate of the duct, and the other end of the duct was opened to pressurized He II. The open ratio of the orifice to the cross-sectional duct area was varied from 9% to 100%. The CHFs increased with the increase in the open ratio but almost independent of the orifice location in the duct. A CHF correlation that can express the experimental data within 15% error was given. Numerical analysis was also performed. (author)
