Anti-earthquake considerations in rotordynamics

Creators

Description

The influence of earthquakes on the safety of rotating machinery, such as sodium pumps in nuclear power plants, has been investigated in recent years, although the number of papers are still not very many in spite of the importance of the problem. Some of those papers will be reviewed. Also, in connection with large turbo-generators, possible failure of a thrust bearing and possible earthquake-induced oil-whip of a generator rotor will be pointed out. The importance of this kind of problem is and will be growing with the general trend of increase in the density of industrial facilities in many parts of the world. (Author)
