Comparison of thermal compatibility between atomized and comminuted U3Si dispersion fuels
- 1. Korea Atomic Research Institute, Taejon (Korea, Republic of)
Description
Thermal compatibility of atomized U3Si dispersion fuels were evaluated up to 2600 hours in the temperature range from 250 to 500 degrees C, and compared with that of comminuted U3Si. Atomized U3Si showed better performance in terms of volume expansion of fuel meats. The reaction zone of U3Si and Al occurred along the grain boundaries and deformation bands in U3Si particles. Pores around fuel particles appeared at high temperature or after long-term annealing tests to remain diffusion paths over the trench of the pores. The constraint effects of cladding on fuel rod suppressed the fuel meat, and reduced the volume expansion
