Radiative decays of K/sub L/0 mesons

Description

In an experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory AGS a number of radiative decays of the K0/sub L/(π+π-γ, e+e-γ and μ+μ-γ) were studied. The charged particles from these decays were detected in a 5000 wire proportional chamber spectrometer and the gammas were detected in a 194 element lead glass Cherenkov counter array. Preliminary results, based on approximately 25 percent of our total data sample, are as follows: The branching ratio K0/sub L/ yields ππγ(direct)/K0/sub L/ yields all = 5.5 +- 1.0 x 10-5. One example of the previously unobserved decay K0/sub L/ yields eeγ was found, yielding a branching ratio of 8.3 +- 8.3 x 10-6. No examples of the decays K0/sub L/ yields μμγ, eeπ0, and Z+μμπ0 were found, yielding improved upper limits of K0/sub L/ yields μμγ/K0/sub L/ yields all < 1.3 x 10-6, K0/sub L/ yields eeπ0/K0sub L/ yields all < 1.4 x 10-5, K0/sub L/ yields μμπ0/K0/sub L/ yields all < 2.5 x 10-6 with 90 percent confidence
