Designing an operational radiation protection programme for a research accelerator facility

Description

The use of accelerators in various fields is increasing at a rapid rate. Advanced and larger accelerators for research are being designed and commissioned, requiring close regulatory control. This design of radiation protection programme set out the basic radiation protection and safety aspects in accelerators and specifies the radiation protection programme to be incorporated at the design stage. It concentrates on those aspects that are specific to accelerator facilities, with the emphasis on radiation sources and safety systems. Brief comments on radiation monitoring and operational issues are also provided as well as some useful references and guidance documents. It should be useful to users as well as designers and managers of accelerator facilities. (author)
