Resin composition cross-linkable by ionizing radiations
Description
A liquid resin composition curable with ionizing radiations is provided. The composition is prepared by blending a polyvinyl chloride resin (usually 0.5 to 50% by wt.) with a vinyl monomer and diallyl phthalate prepolymer (usually 0.1% by wt. or more). In the presence of the prepolymer, polyvinyl chloride can readily be crosslinked and copolymerized with the vinyl monomer by utilizing only a small dose of ionizing radiation (usually 103 to 107R) to yield coating films, adhesives and molded articles having the characteristic features of both polyvinyl chloride and polyally phthalate. In one example (parts by wt.), a vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer (70/30 by mol) (30) and Me acrylate (70) were mixed with varied quantities of dially phthalate prepolymer (IV 60, SV 450, MW 10,000). The resulting composition was applied to a tinned plate and irradiated with electron beams (4 Mrad). The quantity of dially phthalate prepolymer (parts) and gel fraction (%) were: 0, 12.8; 3, 44.3; 5, 55,3; 7, 54.8; 10, 53.1; 15, 58.9. (S. Kaichi)
