A new laser for research
Description
The author describes the krypton fluoride laser in operation at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Various applications are discussed: plasma generated by focusing the laser beam on a spherical shell containing deuterium and tritium; high intensity X-rays generated by focusing the laser beam on a carbon target to produce microscopic images of biological specimens.
