Computational analysis for the COMPASS machine

The paper outlines four topics in which computational methods have contributed to the design of the compass toroidal tokamak/pinch machine. The main areas are structual analysis of a novel butt joint in a toroidal field coil, structural analysis of two thin walled toroidal vacuum vessels, control system stability using the nyquist criterion, and circuit and plasma simulation during reverse field pinch operation
