Radiographic and function changes after partial lung irradiation in the rat

Description
The early and late changes in the right rat lung following single dose X-irradiation were studied using computerised axial tomography (CT) and noninvasive lung function tests. The biphasic response of the lung, i.e., the early pneumonitis phase, from six to ten weeks and later fibrosis starting at 18 weeks after irradiation, were both detectable by increased lung density. Whereas functional changes were prominent during the pneumonitis phase, these were only minor in the late phase. (orig.)

Die akuten und chronischen Veraenderungen in der Rattenlunge nach Einzeitbestrahlung der rechten Lunge wurden mit Hilfe der Computertomographie und nichtinvasiven Lungenfunktionstests untersucht. Der biphasische Verlauf der Strahlenreaktion der Lunge, also sowohl die fruehe Pneumonitisphase sechs bis zehn Wochen nach Bestrahlung als auch die spaetere Fibrose nach etwa 18 Wochen, war als erhoehte Lungendichte nachweisbar. Funktionelle Stoerungen waren in der akuten Phase ausgepraegt, spaeter jedoch nur geringfuegig. (orig.)Additional details
