Determination of the 232U/137Cs, 235U/137Cs, 236U/137Cs, 238U/137Cs-gamma scaling factors for radioactive waste produced in the post-irradiation examination laboratory of INR Pitesti

Description

A set of nine working areas inside the transfer hot cells of the Post-Irradiation Examination Laboratory of INR Pitesti was sampled using wipes. These areas act as 'fingerprints' of radioactive waste streams related to the activities taking place in these working areas inside the hot cells. After a few months, the same working areas were again sampled, in the same manner. Gamma, gross alpha and gross beta measurements were performed on the two sets of samples, in order to establish the gamma radionuclide to be chosen as reference and to find the working area for which the results were the most reproducible. The scaling factors U-232,-235,-236,-238/ (control gamma source) were then determined for the selected area. (authors)
