Distribution of transuranic isotopes in the surface water of the North Sea and adjacent regions
Description
Distribution patterns of transuranics in the North Sea area are presented. The presence of 238Pu, 239+240Pu, 241Am and 244Cm is described as originating mostly from three nuclear reprocessing plants. Plutonium ratios confirm that only a small amount of these isotopes is from fallout from nuclear weapons tests. It is suggested that the transport mechanism of plutonium is analogous to that of 137Cs. (author)
