High quality of verification images in radiation therapy with storage phosphor radiography

With introduction of verification images in radiation therapy, many efforts were made to improve the image quality, especially the contrast. This paper reports on reasonable results obtained using metal layers and fast films. Storage phosphor radiography (SR) provides a new method of improving image quality. Compared with conventional verification imaging, SR renders possible a higher visual contrast of soft-tissue and bone structures simultaneously. Image quality in SR was optimized by using metal screens (absorbers of back-scattered electrons) and by following special readout algorithms. The feasibility of the digital technique in radiation therapy was verified. Five radiotherapists separately evaluated 40 digital and 40 conventional images
