Recovery and concentration of ammonia from swine manure using electrodialysis couples with air stripping
Description
This project aimed at producing a concentrated nitrogen fertilizer from liquid swine manure using electrodialysis (ED) coupled with an acid trap, as a mean to help resolve the excess nutrient problem faced by swine producers, and offer an alternative to commercial nitrogen fertilizer. Raw swine manure was first treated by solid-liquid separation. The liquid fraction used as feed for the ED process, had 3200 and 14000 mg/L of NH4-N and alkalinity, respectively, and a pH of 8.5 ED was carriedo ut as batch process, in a dilution-concentration, configuration using 10 primary units of AR204SZRA anionic membranes and CR67HMR cationic membranes (ionics, USA).
