Description
We investigate the isotope shift for several optical transitions of the three stable isotopes of the oxygen atom (16O, 17O, 18O) using laser polarization spectroscopy. The analysis of the experimental results by means of King plots suggests a nuclear volume contribution to the isotope shift. This result, at first surprising for such a light element, must be related to the doubly magic structure of the 16O nucleus. (orig.)
