Influence of impurities on the ignition of Zircaloy

Description

An explosion apparatus with a volume of 20 litres was used for the determination of safety-relevant characteristic values of an explosive mixture of refined Zircaloy (explosion pressure, pressure increase rate, ignition energy i.a.) especially in the presence of dry or wet impurities. Discussed are the results of the tests with regard to the influence of different impurities as well as to the fire behaviour in the presence of cement. (RB)

Abstract (German)

Zur Ermittlung sicherheitstechnisch relevanter Kenngroessen eines explosionsgefaehrlichen Gemisches von Zircaloyfeinteilen (Explosionsdruck, Druckanstiegsgeschwindigkeit, Zuendenergie u.a.), speziell in Gegenwart von trockenen oder feuchten Verunreinigungen wurde eine Explosionsapparatur mit 20 Liter Volumen eingesetzt. Die Ergebnisse der Versuche zum Einfluss verschiedenartiger Verunreinigungen sowie zum Brandverhalten in Gegenwart von Zement werden diskutiert. (RB)
