Regularity in the changes of the thermodynamic functions associated with the formation of mononuclear complexes

Regularities for the changes of the free energy ΔG, enthalpy ΔH enthropy ΔS have been derived, associated with the complex formation processes in metal-ligand systems whose stability constants of the consecutive mononuclear compelxes ML, ML2, ML3, ML4...MLsub(n) satisfy the relation βn = A an/n (n = 1,2,3... N) where βn is the overall stability constant of the MLsub(n) complex, n is the number of ligands (1 <= n <= N), A and a are constants. The validity of the above equation for a given metal-ligand system leads to linear dependances of the quantities A and a vs 1/T. This fact facilitates the calculation of βn constants and their variation with temperature and hence enables the determination of the changes of all thermodynamic functions with higher precision. The feasibility and utility of the above method are demonstrated by applying it to several metal-ligand systems. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Es wurden Regularitaeten fuer die Veraenderungen der freien Energie ΔG, Enthalpie ΔH und Entropie ΔS wurden abgeleitet, die mit den komplexen Bildungsprozessen in Metall-Ligandensystemen zusammenhaengen, deren Stabilitaetskonstanten der aufeinanderfolgenden mononuklearen Komplexe ML, ML2, ML3, ML4...MLsub(n) die Beziehung βn = A an/n (n = 1,2,3...,N) erfuellen. Hierbei ist βn die Ueberallstabilitaetskonstante des MLsub(n)-Komplexes, n ist die Anzahl der Liganden ( 1 <= n <N); A und a sind Konstanten. Die Gueltigkeit der obigen Gleichung fuer ein gegebenes Metall-Liganden-System fuehrt zu linearer Abhaengigkeit der Groessen A und a von 1/T. Diese Tatsache ermoeglicht die Berechnung der Konstanten βn und ihrer Variation mit der Temperatur. Deshalb ermoeglicht sie auch die Bestimmung der Veraenderung der thermodynamischen Funktion mit hoher Praezision. Die Eignung und Anwendung der obigen Methode wird gezeigt, indem sie auf mehrere Systeme angewandt wird. (orig.)
