Description
How much gas turbine capacity should a power system prudently plan for? In this paper a case study example is used to determine the economic generation addition technology mix and to illustrate the extent to which this technology mix is least-cost under a range of future uncertainties. A sample utility system was chosen having a 1990 peak load of 10,000 MW and a U.S. average generation system technology composition including hydro-electric, nuclear, coal steam, oil/gas steam, combined cycle and simple cycle gas turbines technologies. Representative heat rates, availabilities, fuel cost, and O and M costs typical of the vintage of the equipment are used
