Risk analysis of liquid ammonia storage for a fuel element production line

  • 1. China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., LTD., Zhengzhou Branch, Zhengzhou Henan (China)

Description

Ammonia is usually used as an important chemical raw material in ADU depositing, ammonia salt depositing and ion exchange processes in the production of nuclear fuel element. Ammonia used in a fuel element production line is prepared by liquid ammonia. Improper storage of liquid ammonia will leak, the staff will dissolve necrotic tissue and cause acute poisoning and other hazards through inhalation, ingestion or skin contact way, in addition, it may also explode to threat the surrounding facilities, especially the integrity of the nuclear facilities sealing. In this paper, explosive energy equivalent method is used to calculate the overpressure range after the explosion of liquid ammonia storage tank occurred. The damage of related nuclear facilities and injury to personnel is analyzed in the overpressure range. The analysis indicates that there will be a certain risk when liquid ammonia tank is located in this location, so the corresponding safe storage countermeasures based on its risk should be made.
