Pressurized light water reactors. The EPR project
Description
The EPR (European Pressurized water Reactor) project is jointly developed by the French and German industrialists and electric power engineers. It must answer the safety requirements commonly specified by both the French and German nuclear safety authorities, but also the European Utility Requirements (EUR) and the particular electrical specifications of both countries. This paper gives an overview of the industrial organization of the project and of its main objectives (general objectives and safety requirements). Then the EPR principle is described (reactor type, general conditions, core, operating conditions, primary and secondary circuits and their components, auxiliary and safety systems, man-machine interface and instrumentation and control system, confinement and severe accidents, architecture and main technical characteristics).
