Rapid desensitization to aspirin: a case report

Description
Introduction: Aspirin is the cornerstone in treating patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), on which is possible to use desensitization protocols in allergic patients. Case Report: Patient, 63 years old, with ACS, presenting allergic reaction to aspirin noticed during hospital stay. Proceeded with, in intensive care unit, desensitization, following well stablished literature, without any complications. Discussion: Aspirin allergy is frequent in our community, with the desensitization procedure being almost unknown and not used as desired. Its implementation allows the patient, as determined in well stablished cardiology guidelines, use aspirin safely. Conclusion: The desensitization protocol in this scenarios is safe, low cost and with high success rates. (author)
