Study on structural design of international tokamak reactor

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Tokai, Ibaraki. Tokai Research Establishment

Description

The International Tokamak Reactor (INTOR) workshop organized by IAEA is now operating with a collaborative effort among Japan, USA, EC, and USSR. Toshiba participates mainly in the structural design work of the INTOR under the direction of JAERI. The object of the design is to establish the technical feasibility of the fusion reactor of self-ignition by DT operation. The main features required of the reactor are maintainability under radiations, compactness and ability of comfining tritium. The adoption of simple straight motion in oblique direction, as replacement procedure of the main components such as limiter and blanket, has permitted the reactor dimensions to be considerably reduced, with sufficient maintainability retained. Finally, a realizable concept of the reactor system of DT operation has been successfully established, not only through the conceptual structural design for NBI or RF heating system, first wall, pump limiter, blanket, etc., but also through the analysis for cooling system, power supply system, tritium processing system, including seismic analysis of the reactor.
