Simulation of integral experiments for the validation of codes and cross sections for long-lived radioactive waste incineration studies

Description

To validate both HETC code and LAHET/MCNP chain Moscow Radiotechnical Institute and COSMOTRON experiences have been simulated. The HETC simulation results present a systematic overestimation respect to the experimental data of about 10%; while the LAHET using pre-equilibrium model option results reproduce the Moscow Radiotechnical Institute data within a 2.27% and the COSMOTRON data for Pb and Sn within the 8%. The validation of the neutron cross sections is performed simulating sixteen critical experiments. The agreement among keff values obtained with different cross section sets is reasonable. The maximum Δk/k are for bare Pu spheres and for Pb and Fe reflected highly enriched U sphere and cylinder. (author)
