The measurements of temperature flow and level in an LMFBR

Creators

Description

The requirements for instrumentation to measure temperatures, sodium flow-rates and levels, in a liquid metal fast breeder reactor having a primary circuit of the pool type are described. The operation of the instrumentation provided for flow-rate and level measurements at the prototype fast reactor at Dounreay is considered and also its application to the first commercial fast reactor currently being designed. Instrumentation to measure individual fuel channel outlet temperatures is described, and signal handling from thermocouples installed for control and indication functions is discussed. Development requirements for instrumentation to fulfil the required functions, both in new types and modifications to the existing ones are described. (author)
