Luminescence and charge transfer in yttrium-aluminium garnets with a rare-earth impurity

  • 1. Latvijskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Riga (USSR) Problemnaya Laboratoriya Fiziki Poluprovodnikov

Description

This paper deals with problems of energy and charge transfer as well as processes of accumulation of radiation-induced defects in unactivated crystals of yttrium-aluminium garnets and in yttrium-aluminium garnets activated with such rare-earth additives as Nd, Gd, Tb and Dy. X-ray and thermoluminescence spectra have been measured. The results indicate that the ion of a rare-earth additive serves as the luminescence center. Excitations with X-, beta- and gamma-radiations produce the same defects, but in different relative concentrations depending on the nature of excitation
