Analysis of the influence of the current of a negative ion beam on its diagnostics by means of detachment electrons

Description

The influence of the field of a negative ion beam on information about its characteristics, transferred by detachment electrons after a probing internal target, is considered. The perturbations of the momentum components of electrons during their extraction out of the beam by means of a 180 degree magnetic analyzer with a homogeneous field, are calculated in the model of infinite cylinder with a uniformly cross section distributed current. The obtained results show that the method of nonperturbative diagnostics of a negative ion beam by means of photodetachment electrons can be used successfully for relativistic beams with a current of hundreds of milliampers, for example, in projected neutron sources based on linear accelerators
