In a coordinated development programme for the construction of fuel cycle centres, the DWK (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Wiederaufarbeitung) has the task to apply the experience gained by KfK and WAK to the planning and finally to the operation of industrial plants. In addition, the work carried out by DWK is aimed at finding solutions for safety engineering and economy problems in order to be able to cope with the requirements of the next decade. The main efforts thus are studies on spent fuel storage, especially head-end problems and detailed problems in the first coextraction cycle of the PUREX-process with components testing, development work for improving the safety of the reprocessing plant (instrumentation, H2 radiolysis), and finally the vitrification of high-level radioactive waste (PAMELA-plant). Abstract (German)
Die DWK (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Wiederaufarbeitung) hat im gemeinsamen Entwicklungsprogramm fuer den Bau von Entsorgungsanlagen die Aufgabe, die von der KfK und der WAK gesammelten Erfahrungen in die Planung und schliesslich Betreibung von grosstechnischen Anlagen umzusetzen. Ihre eigenen zusaetzlichen Entwicklungen dienen dem Ziel, sicherheitstechnische und wirtschaftliche Vorteile fuer die Anforderungen der 90er Jahre zu erarbeiten. Demgemaess stellen sich als derzeitige Arbeitsschwerpunkte dar: die Untersuchung der Brennelemententlagerung, spezielle Head-end-Probleme und Detailprobleme im 1. Koextraktionszyklus des PUREX-Prozesses mit Komponentenerprobung, Entwicklungsarbeiten zur Erhoehung der Sicherheit der Wiederaufarbeitungsanlage (Instrumentierung, H2-Radiolyse) und schliesslich die Verglasung von hochaktivem Abfall (PAMELA-Anlage).
