Tritium detector behavior at low temperatures

Description

Tritium on or near surface can be directly measured using solid state charged particle detectors. Due to the low energy of tritium betas, about 5.7 keV, the measuring system noise threshold should be less than 5 keV. The noise is mainly determined by the detector and the first stage of preamplification. The established model of the noise performance of the system shows a temperature dependence. Using a cryostat coupled on an EDWARDS Cryogenerator and a Tektronics 576 Curve Tracer, we studied that dependence and we found a solution to improve the system measuring resolution. (authors)
