What can be learnt from other research fields and applications
Description
Based on a case study of salt movement near Mulhouse, France, it was concluded that flow and transport of solutes can remain largely undetected, and solutes can be transported to areas expected to be out of the reach of the salt. Methods should be developed to detect anomalies to avoid undetected migration. Three methods are outlined: geophysical methods, hydraulic testing, in-situ natural tracers. (R.P.)
