Quark spectroscopy with a new flavor

  • 1. State Univ. of New York, Stony Brook (USA)

Description

Hydrogen-like bound states of very heavy quark-antiquark pairs discovered in the past few years provide us with new powerful ways to investigate the properties of quarks and their interactions. In particular, the recent direct evidence from CESR for the existence of a new flavored quark (the b quark) and the observation of three bound plus one quasibound banti b states, provide us with a unique new spectroscopy with a wealth of hadronic and electromagnetic transitions whose unraveling will greatly refine our understanding of the interquark forces.
