Intraspecific hybridization for plant height and its association with yield and yield components

  • 1. Nuclear Inst. of Agriculture, Tando Jam (Pakistan)

Description

Sixteen genotypes from various crosses were selected for yield and yield components and its Relationship with plant height. The yield comparison result revealed that lines 02 and line 09 had the highest plot grain yield. The subsequent lines 01, 03 and 07 had the higher grain yield per plot. The high yield in line 02 could be due to early heading. Higher number of spikelets per spike and increased number of grains per spike. The higher grain yield in line 09 could be due to early heading and increased number of grains per spikelet (fertility). Combined correlation analysis was done on the basis of pooled genotypes data. The correlation studies have shown that plant higher was positively and significantly correlated with spike length and main spike grain yield. Spike length was positively and highly correlated with number of spikelets per had positive and highly significant correlation with number grains per spike and main spike grain yield. However, number of spikelets had negative and significant correlation with number of grains per spikelet. Number of grains per spike had positive and highly significant correlation with main spike grain yield and number of grains per spikelet. Main spike grain yield had positive and highly significant correlation with number of grains per spikelet. (author)
